Strategic Initiative 3: Increase Capacity for Graduate Education
IUPUI will develop tomorrow’s intellectual leaders and scholars through enhanced opportunities in graduate education, in particular Ph.D. programs, and through interprofessional education.
Increasing Capacity for Graduate Education Task Force
IUPUI has shown remarkable growth in graduate education over the last 15 years. As the campus engages in strategic planning, we have an opportunity to assess how graduate education contributes to a new vision and goals for IUPUI and to create strategies that will ensure the health of graduate education on our campus far into the future.
The Task Force on Increasing Capacity for Graduate Education and help develop a strategic plan for graduate education at IUPUI. This work will build on our current accomplishments, align with Indiana University’s Principles of Excellence, and inform our new strategic plan. The group will review enrollment trends and data, graduation figures, and funding for graduate programs at IUPUI and will compare our outcomes with those of our peer institutions. The Task Force is especially encouraged to consider the following questions:
- How do we compare with our peers?
- What is the capacity for growth within existing programs?
- What criteria should be used to determine when new programs should be developed?
- What criteria should be used to drive the decision to close or consolidate programs?
- What funding level is needed to support graduate students and maintain the health of graduate programs?
- How can we attract increased fellowship funding in support of graduate education at IUPUI?
The Task Force will meet over the next few months with the goal of producing a report with recommendations by the end of May 2013. The outcome of this strategic planning process will be even stronger graduate programs to support our campus goals of conducting world class research and contributing to the economic development of our city and state.
